A lesson on autism

The other night I finished off The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. My initial reaction was to wonder how the book earnt such immense popularity. It wasn’t at all what I expected; it felt more like Haddon preaching about what it’s like to be autistic, than anything else. (Apparently the accuracy of Haddon’s portrayal of an autistic individual is contended as well, which doesn’t surprise me.)

Interestingly, many elements of Christopher’s personality struck a chord with me, particularly chapter 229 — it’s not a dream I remember ever having (I so rarely seem to remember my dreams), but I’ve found myself daydreaming something similar from time to time …
